Vincennes High School, an Indiana basketball powerhouse in the 1920s, was known as the Pirates until 1923. That year, under Coach John L. Adams,Vincennes captured the state basketball championship, and a local sportswriter began to refer to the boys basketball teams as the ‘Alices’. This nickname came from Maurice Thompson's 1900 novel Alice of Old Vincennes, which is a story of a lady who made an American flag for George Rogers Clark when he captured Vincennes from the British in 1779. The name ‘Alices’ to represent the high school’s teams was retained when the ‘new’ Lincoln High School was built in 1927. It remains, eighty- six years after that first state basketball championship, the nickname for Lincoln High School athletic teams in the 21st century.

Last year we marked an important milestone for Class of 1959 . May 25, 2009 was the 50th anniversary of our graduation ceremonies at the Coliseum. During the past half century we have gone our separate ways to pursue careers and build families throughout the United States.

This website provides a vehicle for all members of the Class of 1959 to renew old friendships by sharing and exchanging our experiences from the last 50 years, and keep in touch in the coming years.
